Breathing Machines: Movement Studies in the Posthuman Era
2024Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, Dance x Technology Creative Lab
In collaboration with choreographer Jaeyoung Lee and performance curator Jisun Park, this project experimented with transforming breath into a mechanical interface. By collecting and analyzing acoustic and kinematic data from various breathing patterns, we developed a device capable of generating synthesized breath sounds in real-time.
The work explores the blurring boundaries between organism and machine by datafying and mechanically reproducing breathing—life's most fundamental activity.
